PE Long Term Overview  Cycle A & B

At Ranby C of E Primary, we use our progression of skills to plan for each cycle, which is supported by different planning tool for example ‘The Power of PE’, Cross Curricular Orienteering, PE Planning, etc. This is to support the children in the skill they are developing and enabling teachers to deliver a deep and broad curriculum to the highest quality.

P.E. is timetabled twice a week for every class within school giving children the chance to keep healthy and enjoy physical activity and sport. One of the sessions is taught by a sports specialist in which the teacher observes or team teaches to increase confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.

We also offer swimming to our Year 3, 4 and 5 children. This gives children of all abilities the great opportunity to experience swimming, with additional Top-Up sessions, and helps us to achieve the national Year 6 Swimming and Water-Safety Targets.

At Ranby C of E Primary, we take part in the daily mile, which is a social and physical activity. The children run, jog or walk at their own pace in the fresh air with friends. This promotes developing ownership over the child’s fitness and mental health well-being. We promote the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity as children wear fitness tracker (Moki Band), which records steps throughout a day. We are able to track active learning happening in the school grounds. It is recommended that primary school children are active for at least 60 minutes within a school day
