Reading books are changed on set days and closely monitored to ensure pupils are reading at a level appropriate for their individual needs.

In addition to reading school books, encourage your child to read other materials such as labels, menus, leaflets, comics and other text.

Recognising and reading text is the early stage of reading. As reading develops, pupils will gain an understanding of what they have read, you can help enhance this skill by asking questions about what they have read and giving them opportunities to develop 'what next' or 'what if' ideas.

Hearing your child read regularly is an important part of reading development, chose a time when you both are relaxed, have time and can enjoy the experience together!
